Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

11/25/2013

Random lesson of the day: Reduce Reuse Recycle.

Unused paints + empty containers = NEW PAINT!

I only buy large amounts of paint about two times a year. Having to replace a few colors regularly throughout the year (white, black, red).

To extend the life of my paints and avoid WASTE of colors that are not my favorite, I create color combinations that I may have used before and new combinations I have been wanting to try.

If you cannot come up with any color combinations that you would like, pair colors by hue. Put warms with warms and cools with cools. Match like colors in different shades. A color combination of multiple shades of blue will always provide more depth than a flat single color.

What do you need?

Empty paint containers

Half used paint containers

Unused paints

Plastic butter knife

Wet wipes

Take your old empty paint containers and REUSE them. RECYCLE your unused paints by mixing and matching them into your favorite color combinations.

Color combination suggestions:

1. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue & purple (Rainbow: this will be your most popular cake, hands down)

2. Teal, Pink, Purple (butterflies, Princess Crowns, flowers)

3. Red with thin strip of white (roses)

4. True green, forest green with thin strip of black (leaves)

5. Yellow, Red with thin strip of black (fire)

When working with children on a daily basis, hand sanitizer, soap & water should be your best friend. Not catching it is just as important as not spreading it.

Wash in between children, or as much as reasonably possible. Do not rub/touch eyes, nose or mouth with unclean hands. If you do not have a tissue or handkerchief, Cough into elbow or shirt, never into hand or air.

Stay Healthy!

Ponderings: How To Keep Everyone Happy

Face Painting: I used to not take a menu book with me to parties... I have one now. It's limited, but helpful. I also offer to create theme based menus, which most do not request as they are usually ok with the kids getting whatever they want.  I had a new experience where a parent was "dissatisfied" because the children did not choose "theme" designs (the theme was "princess").  This is very common. I have only done a few parties where children stuck with the theme or parents instructed me to encourage theme-only designs.

I have decided that using strategic marketing (as you would in advertising) it is very possible to encourage the children to pick theme only designs without having to say anything.

I will try and do my best to push (without pushing) the party theme as much as possible whether a theme menu was requested or not.

This will be a new project for me as I have been looking to improve my party menu book for a while now.

Saturday fun courtesy of Party Face Magic. Thank you to the Kinder family of Glendora and the Carrillo family of La Habra.

There was a lot of adult participation this time around:

The men jumped in on the fun with a forearm peacock for Mr. Kinder, representing his hometown of Arcadia. And, for the Carillo family, coordinated forearms of Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Oscar the Grouch & Elmo.

The women were not to be outdone with Mrs Carrillo's day of the dead mask and Miss Leti's peacock neck piece and ankle butterfly.

A happy and fun day for all.

Hire a face painter for your (adult) party because grown ups love face painting too!

There was much fun this Saturday with the Munoz family of Chino Hills celebrating a 5th Super Hero birthday poolside and with the Lopez family of Rancho Cucamonga celebrating their miss Lina's birthday with Minnie Mouse flair.

Face Painting and Glitter Tattoos were available this Sunday at the Santa Ana Zoo.  We were able to cater to over 50 guests again this weekend.  Yippee!

Thanks to everyone for all the fun!  Without you, we can't do what we do.

Take time today to enjoy your loved ones and honor those who have died for us.

Have a blessed day.

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's day and found time to spend it with family and loved ones.

This Mothers day weekend we finished out Chaffey College's 130th Birthday party at the Fontana Campus. Wow! It was 99 degrees at 4pm. Thank goodness for shade, a breeze and a late afternoon start. (With Face Painting by Cynnamon and Her Balloon Art c/o Memorable Event Entertainment)

Fun requests of the day: skeleton hand, partial sugar skull & a peacock mask.

Sunday, I was off to LA to celebrate a first birthday with the Stern Family. Afterwards, we took advantage of the location and found an excuse to have some traditional "soul food".  (This party was compliments of a Santa Ana Zoo member's recommendation. Thank you!)

It  looks like I will be in LA again this Saturday!

Have a great week :)
